Day 1 in the “Twin City”!

10:00am- Tour the Old Salem Museum & Gardens!

Visit the Old Salem Museum & Gardens and experience the early American history in Moravian settlement of Salem dating from 1766 to 1849. Get an up-close look at eighteenth and nineteenth century Moravian culture and traditions.  Tour a variety of southern craftsmanship, artistry and stories from the early South. Stroll through the restored and renovated historic buildings and structures, and award-winning restoration gardens.

12:00pm- Edutainment at Children's Museums of Winston-Salem!

Edutainment time for kids! Head off to the Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem that features a secret tunnel, early Salem house, old garbs which kids can try on, climbing structures and a variety of educational and fun activities. Kids can paint or sculpt in the art studio, climb the beanstalk, indulge in reading, play in the simulated village, make local krispy kreme doughnuts, or visit the enchanted forest.

Craving for Italian food, step into Di Lisio's Italian Restaurant (301 Brookstown Ave Suite 100) or Meridian Restaurant (411 South Marshall St).  Head off to Sweet Potatoes (529 N Trade St) or Bayberry Bistro (420 High St) for American cuisine. Visit Mooney's Mediterranean Cafe (101 West 4th Street) that puts out Mediterranean and Middle Eastern fare. 

Finish off your lunch with sweet treats at the Winkler Bakery (525 S Main St). , Do taste the Moravian Sugar cake at the bakery. 

2:00pm- Explore art of early South at The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts!

Visit the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts that has an interesting collection of exhibits detailing the North Carolina’ past. Check out the antique furnishings, decor, paintings, textiles, silver, sculptures and other decorative arts of the early South.

3:00pm- Explore history at New Winston Museum!

Next, head off to New Winston Museum that chronicles the history of the Winston-Salem people and places through photographs, letters, documents and other exhibits. It showcases the cultural history of the early Winston and Winston-Salem.

4:00pm- Walk through the racing history at Winston Cup Museum & Special Event Center!

Head off to Winston Cup Museum & Special Event Center that houses authentic Winston Cup race cars from the different periods of the 33 years of NASCAR Winston Cup history. It has the cars driven by NASCAR legends like Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, and many more. Also on display are autographed pictures, trophies, winner’s check, driver helmets and uniforms, original racing posters and other memorabilia.

Head off to Thruway Shopping Center that features over 45 shops and several restaurants. It houses local, national and regional merchants selling a variety of styles of shoes and clothing for both men and women.

Head off to The Tavern in Old Salem that serves up farm-to-fork American cuisine in an authentic historic setting, along with craft beers. The staff is dressed in traditional Moravian garb and serves the dishes that date back to Moravian times in the candle-lit dining rooms. A few favorites on the menu are Chicken pies, Smoked blue cheese bisque, and gingerbread with lemon ice-cream.

10:00am- Reynolda House Museum of Contemporary Art!

Start your day of exploring the Dash by exploring the early South art at the Reynolda House Museum of American Art. The museum houses one of the finest and extensive collections of American artwork dating back to 1755 to the modern day, and includes works by artists like Thomas Eakins, Jacob Lawrence, Frederic Church, Georgia O’Keeffe, and many more great artists.

11:00am- Winston-Salem’s Horticulture past at Historic Bethabara Park!

Experience the eighteenth century North Carolina at the Historic Bethabara Park. The park dates back to when the Moravians first settled here in 1753. Walk through the oldest know medical garden of the country- the Hortus Medicus and know about the gardening traditions that is two centuries old, and also stroll through the community Garden of 1795. Explore the twenty miles nature trails, visit the historical sites and observe wildlife. To get the hand-crafted Moravian, natural and colonial history souvenirs and treasures, visit the Edwin L. Stockton Visitor Center Gift Shop.

2:00pm-Delve in the world of science, space and environment at SciWorks!

Head off to SciWorks that features interactive science exhibits, an environmental park with gardens and animal habitats, picnic areas, and a planetarium. Explore the outdoor environmental park, know about the inside of the human body, dig into the state’s biological and geological diversity through a wide range of hands- on exhibits, marvel at the night sky and travel through the solar system in the planetarium onsite, and learn about aquatic life indigenous to North Carolina.

3:00pm- Discover global cultures at Museum of Anthropology!

Next, head off to Museum of Anthropology housed in the Wake Forest University, North Carolina. It showcases the cultures from around the world through ancient and modern artifacts. The topics of the exhibits include Africa cultural diversity, North Carolina’ Yadkin River Valley archeology, the Silk Road Route through Central Asia, Indian Culture, and Mexican Day of the Dead Celebration.

10:00pm-Party the night away with live music, drinks and dance!

Head off to The Garage - Live Music Venue - Winston Salem, one of the oldest live music spot in the Twin City. Listen to live music across several genres and enjoy the drinks.
